Giffis, Storm prevail; Roosevelt goes off

by Cameron Irvine

It wasn't pretty, but the Florida Storm conquered their stingy rivals - the Charleston Predators - 23-20 on a 44-yard game-winning field goal by kicker Ethan Sneed as time expired. The Storm won the game despite getting out-possessed 30:39-9:21. Ryan Tobin led the Storm defense with 15 solo tackles. Charleston receiver Benjamin Warner had 132 yards on eight grabs in the loss. The Predators trailed 20-7 in the late stages of the third quarter before nearing completing a comeback.

Elsewhere around the league, Indianapolis receiver Ryan Roosevelt went wild to the tune of 210 yards on nine receptions in the Ramblers' 24-14 victory over the must-improved Atlanta Swarm. Roosevelt's 210 was a 4K23-era career high and the third-most single-game receiving yards by any player since Season 21. Indy Quarterback Colin Pierce compiled a 127.9 quarterback rating and Atlanta's Kae Marion had an impressive debut in the new colors, grabbing eight balls for 110 yards and a touchdown. Ramblers receiver Jeff Banfield caught two touchdowns. Indianapolis' defense was paced by Adam Wiseman's five tackles for loss.

Vancouver had little trouble with their Pacific rivals from Oregon Friday night, handling the Portland Fleet 27-9. The Legion used four backs to rush for a league-high 151 rush yards, led by Sudo Nakai's 57 yards on just four carries. Tight end Stephen McMichaels returned to the game from injury and caught a touchdown pass in the win. On defense, Legion linebacker DJ Woods racked up 13 solo tackles (5 for loss) and a sack plus Zach Ley had three pass deflections and an interception. Portland starting running back Ezekiel Love was limited to just 62 yards on 20 carries.
