SFL Power Rankings: Dynasty Watch

We are just about to the finish line and while we do have two teams who have clinched (Albuquerque & Carolina) the rest of the field is up in the air and go still go a myriad of different ways in these final 3 weeks. Baltimore has just about wrapped up another North division title with a giant game on the horizon versus Mexico City, Vancouver has dropped down on the title pace after losing to the Aztecs, Denver may have just thrown away a Central title and Monday night will have Arizona & Florida fighting for their postseason lives!

The answer to last week’s question was yes; Denver did falter and they are back down to the cellar for Brett.

the denver dive

#12 Denver Nightwings (6-4)

Despite some weaker wins on the schedule and a lot of outside noise throughout the season the Nightwings put the league on notice that they may be back to contending after beating Minnesota on the road and taking the lead in the Central with the H2H tiebreaker in tow. A solid win over Atlanta the following week and a struggling Predators team on the horizon later they looked poised to win out or possibly drop one to Houston but having that game lead would be enough for them to clinch the division. If only it were so easy to dethrone the Legend. A shock loss to Charleston later and now a home game vs a #6 Houston squad looking to keep pace in the South and clinch their own place in the top 12 and it’s back to anyone’s title but Minnesota will have the edge here. This was a race that Denver’s to lose and they may have done just that. Too early to count them out but this week should answer a lot of lingering questions.

week 13 premier matchup

#3 Mexico City Aztecs @ #2 Baltimore Vultures(-2.5) | O/U 44.5 | MAR. 30th 6:30 PM EDT

Last week’s Premier Matchup was between the #1 & #2 teams in Strength Rating with Mexico City coming out on top over the Legion to usurp their stronghold on the #1 spot. This week the Aztecs put their new ranking to the test as they visit the #4 team in Strength Rating: Baltimore. The Vultures have some breathing room in their division race to not worry too much about the outcome here but a win here with the rewards from increased SOV should put them in a very strong position to hold a top 4 spot and a bye when all is said and done. Mexico City must win here as they are a half game back on the Atoms with that matchup coming up soon as well as a finale vs a struggling Scorpions team who may be fighting for a spot in the postseason and would love to drop the champs to bolster their resume for a final push. Taking on Baltimore at home isn’t the best spot to be in when you need a win, but a battle tested Aztecs team are just the sort to come away with something here after a slow 2-2 start to rattling off 5 straight wins in what looks to be a mirror of last season where they put it all together. In a game of old dynasties vs. a new budding one who can take the crown and secure home field in the opening rounds and possibly in a potential rematch.
