SFL Power Rankings: May Madness Commence
A full slate of games and a full crew of voters sees us into the post-Week 1 madness as teams tumble and rise and the community at large begins to form conclusion from 40 minutes of film. We have a long season ahead of us but already some big hitters are down; but are they out?
VOTING BREAKDOWN
Mexico City beats the #2 team but does not sweep the first place votes. The #2 team, Minnesota, loses heavily and two camps form on what it means. Queen City does not make the cut but is the highest they’ve been since we’ve moved over to a singular Power Ranking format. Mike Ahl is back with the spice! Not too spicy though as outside of the teams on bye being place as the bottom 3 the outliers are Queen City, Pittsburgh & Oklahoma City receiving points. Sound off what sticks out to you over in The Streets as I expect Eddie to post it up there to farm some more content. Although, after last night….
WEEK 1 JITTERS?
#8 Minnesota Legend (0-1)
Another season where Minnesota is being looked at as an elite team and they drop their first game out of the gate. Week 1 madness is rife with stories such as thing and I know of another team with a similar trajectory of a “slow” start to a rousing climax; The Florida Storm. Now last season’s loss was to a rival Ramblers team in OT at the convention and this time it was to the defending champs in a blowout so not quite the same look and this could be seen as they just aren’t quite there yet to make that final push to a title game but equally large games against Atlanta & Baltimore should being to paint a clearer picture than what we have now and who we may see as the teams dwindle to two.
#10 Baltimore Vultures (0-1)
Big bad Baltimore falls in Week 1 and I’m hearing that it puts them at 1-3 in Week 1 in the 4k23 era overall. Baltimore’s schedule from here on does not get much easier as they get Fort Worth & Minnesota before an easier run of games. In a landscape of other teams beginning to catch up to the top of the mountain dropping an early game to a team you should be beating (beat them 50-7 in the previous playoffs) puts you on the backfoot and could haunt them later down the line when ties come into effect.
WEEK 2 PREMIER MATCHUP
#16 Atlanta Swarm @ #8 Minnesota Legend(-4.5) | O/U 44.5 | JAN. 12th 1:00 PM EST
Minnesota is back again in the Premier matchup of the week as they take themselves back home licking their wounds to welcome a Swarm squad that almost took down a giant in the Storm. Both sides really need a win here early to start rolling before an early bye in Week 5 and both have a good chance at doing so here. The Legend though are nearly unstoppable at home since their inception and, personally, I don’t see it changing here. No QCC/OKC barnburner here but it will be close and I see Minnesota getting their first by a 24-20 scoreline.
